MGM Brake Cylinders

1. Development History
   • MGM's r4a and r5ahd remote mount cylinders are the world's first spring-applied parking and emergency brake actuators for commercial vehicles, introduced by MGM Brakes in 1956. They were originally invented in the logging areas of northern California.
2. Working Principle
   • Take the application of MGM brake cylinders in the tailgate actuators of dump trucks as an example. When the tailgate is closed, the spring pressure inside the cylinder moves the latch to the locked position, reducing the risk of the tailgate opening accidentally. The operator applies air to the cylinder through a valve in the vehicle cab. As the air pressure inside the cylinder increases, it forces the piston to move, compressing the spring and extending the push rod, thus moving the tailgate latch to the open position.
